2nd Installment Tax Bills Released

News & Updatescranetaxlaw.com

The Cook County Treasurer released 2nd installment tax bills electronically today. These tax bills, which reflect the final amount due for Tax Year 2019, also reveal the tax rates being used to calculate each tax bill for Tax Year 2019. These tax bills will be mailed to taxpayers in the coming days and will carry a due date of August 3, 2020.

However, on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cook County Board previously agreed to waive late-payment interest penalties for two months. This means that, while the original due date of August 3rd remains in effect for 2nd installment tax bills in Cook County, there will be no penalty for tax payments made through August and September. The last date to pay 2nd installment tax bills without penalty is now October 1, 2020.

These changes to tax bill procedures are just the latest efforts made by local governments to lessen the burden faced by taxpayers during this trying time. It is almost surely not to be the last.
